Tekashi 6ix9ine

Tekashi 6ix9ine,  whose real name is Daniel Hernandez,  rose to fame in 2017 after releasing “Gummo.” He quickly found fame and money.  He then found himself the subject of state prosecutions and eventually a federal prosecution. He was accused of being a Blood, then he renounced his gang affiliation, he’s been prosecuted for federal racketerring and now he’s a government witness. A brief overview follows:

2015

In 2015 Tekashi 6ix9ine admitted to using a child in a sexual performance. As part of . a youthful offender plea, he was required to get his GED and perform community service to prevent this from staying on his record. (Credit: Rolling Stone).

2018

2018, however, was a rough year for 6ix9ine as he was arrested a couple of times for traffic  offenses and a fight. He ended up being given four additional years of probation stemming from the use of the child in the performance a few years before. (Credit: Rolling Stone)

2018 Gets Worse: Federal Charges

His situation worsened, however, when he was arrested on federal racketeering and firearms charges stemming from a joint effort by the ATF, NYPD, and Homeland Security. He was arrested along with his ex-manager Shottie and others. His arraignment on those charges was in November 2018. (Credit: Rolling Stone)

Prosecutors alleged he participated in shootings, robberies, and assaults in New York. The allegations included an alleged shooting of someone who had said negative things about the gang. The indictment (which included other defendants) included armed robberies in Times Square and a shooting in the Barclays Center. (Vulture)

That month he claimed that the only two things he feared were God and the FBI. Now he’s snitched on the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. (Vulture)

6ix9ine has implicated Jim Jones, Cardi B as gang members.  He implicated his co-defendants in violent crims.  He stated that his former manager, Shotti, was a high-ranking or, at least prominent, member of Nine Trey. 6ix9ine stated that rapper Trippie Redd and Casanova are both Bloods.  He denounced his affiliation with the Nine Treys and has been offered witness protection. (Vulture).

Reaction

He’s become the butt of many jokes for turning government witness. Celebrities have taken to Instagram, including Snoop Dog who noted the difference in Martha Stewart and 6ix9ine.

Why Would He Snitch

Prosecutors love snitches a/k/a someone who testifies on someone else.  Sometimes, a prosecutor’s case depends on turning one defendant or suspect against others. They secure this testimony against others by offering immunity, reduced sentences, or at least promise to request a reduced sentence.

Defense attorneys have ways of discrediting a snitch’s testimony.  Primarily, defense attorneys argue that a snitch would say anything to avoid a lengthy prison sentence,  and,  because of that, the snitch is just saying what the prosecutors want to hear!
